Manila – Typhoon “Maysak” ( international name) is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday or Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather bureau forecaster Gener Quitlong said that typhoon “Maysak” may further intensify before it hits the country.

He also said in a telephone interview,”Nasa dagat (Pacific Ocean) pa kasi kaya posible pang lumakas,” reported the Interaksyon news.

The typhoon will be named “Chedeng” once it enters PAR. It is possibly the first storm to make landfall over the country this year according to the weather authorities.

Interaksyon news reported that “The updated forecast track of News5’s Metra Weather System showed that Maysak could make landfall over Eastern Samar on Black Saturday then move northwest and directly hit parts of southern Luzon.”

However, the track of the typhoon may also change depending on high pressure area near Japan which is also known as the North Pacific High, said Quitlong.

Quitlong also said that as soon as the northeast monsoon is terminated which is possibly within the week, the weather bureau will announce the start of the country’s dry season.

Meanwhile here is PAGASA’s weather advisory issued at 11 am, 31 March, 2015:

“At 10:00 am today, the eye of Typhoon over the Marianas Islands with International Name “MAYSAK” was located based on all available data at 1,820 km East of Northern Mindanao (9.6?N, 142.1?E). It has maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 20 kph.

This Typhoon is still too far to affect any part of the country. It is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow evening or Thursday early morning and will be named “CHEDENG”.”

As of 5 am this morning , PAGASA also forecasted that “Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon and Marinduque will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds coming from the Northeast will prevail with slight to moderate seas.”
