Some schools near restive Mayon Volcano in Albay province will attempt to resume normal classes within this week.
This developed as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology continued to keep tabs on Mayon even if it appeared to be relatively calm in recent days.
A report by radio dzBBs Allan Gatus on Tuesday said some schools will try to hold classes as early as Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils Tuesday update said classes had been suspended in at least 29 schools within the danger zone extending up to eight kilometers from Mayon since September 16.
These include:
8 in Ligao City
3 in Malilipot
6 in Daraga
4 in Camalig
4 in Guinobatan
4 in Sto. Domingo
Several families living in the danger zone around Mayon had been evacuated from their homes earlier this month, after Phivolcs raised the alert level there to "3."
This alert level means an eruption is possible.
According to the NDRRMC, affected by Mayon are 11,338 families or 52,303 people in 38 barangays. They are now staying in 50 evacuation centers.
Also affected were 19,931 farm and domestic animals within mayons six-kilometer permanent danger zone.
Earlier this week, tents that would serve as temporary classrooms were distributed to some local government officials.
As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, Phivolcs recorded three volcanic earthquakes and 18 rockfall events around Mayons seismic network in the last 24 hours.
It also noted weak to moderate emission of white steam plumes drifting east-northeast, northeast and southwest.
