Just recently, Loraine Centeno was supposed to have an enjoyable evening with her family at the movies. Instead, she landed in the hospital.
An accident inside the cinema
Centeno said she and her family just wanted to watch a movie at a mall in Taguig last week. Inside the theater, she told her husband that she would just buy snacks while the movie was ongoing.
"Makulit kasi anak ko so sabi ko sa husband ko we will go muna to buy food. May stairs dun eh tapos may ramp. I missed a couple of steps, siguro isa o dalawang steps. I remember hearing a ***cking sound. Yun pala, I hurt my ankle," she told ABS-CBN News.
Although there were floor lights, it was still too dark and loud inside the theater for anyone to see or hear what had happened to Centeno.
Centeno's husband then decided to look for her, and found her on the floor.
Security guard's best efforts
Centeno and her husband then sought the help of the security guard stationed at the theater.
"Wala yatang first aid kit. Pero in fairness to the guard, gumawa sya ng paraan. Kumuha siya ng ice from the store and he put it there at tinali niya ng panyo. Humingi sya ng yelo sa establishment," she said.
After nearly two hours, Centeno was brought to a hospital where her foot was put in a cast.
Her medical bill reached P8,000.
Management's initial offer
Centeno later e-mailed the manager of the theater who agreed to meet. During the meeting, she was surprised by the management's offer-a box of donuts and free movie tickets.
"They apologized and gave me movie tickets. Sabi ko: I cannot go anywhere near a movie house anytime soon," she said.
The management later agreed to reimburse Centeno's medical expenses.
Holding people accountable
Centeno said her family is planning to file a formal complaint against the cinema management. The management has promised to look into Centeno's case.
Centeno pointed out: "What is important for me is to hold people accountable. They really solve this. They could always pay for the medical expenses. Magkano lang yun. Pero alam ba ng company that this happened? Alam ba na ganun sila maghandle?"
