Teen mom forgives priest who berated her during baby's baptism

She reveals he was in tears when he went to her house.

| ANC - Fri, Jul 11, 2014

The 17-year-old single mother in Cebu who was berated by Fr. Romeo Obach at her baby's baptism is now asking the public to stop criticizing the priest. She says she has forgiven him for the incident.

Personal visit from tearful priest

The single mother revealed that Obach went to her house on Wednesday evening, July 9.

When she met him at the door, a tearful Obach immediately hugged her and asked for her forgiveness.

She said she felt Obach's sincerity. She revealed that he also gave her a religious medal.

Making peace

The young mother went on to say that she feels much better now that she and Obach have made peace.

She has removed from Facebook the video clip of Obach rebuking her for having a baby out of wedlock.

The video, which was uploaded by the baby's grandmother mother, had gone viral, with many netizens saying the priest did not have the right to insult the young mother.

Investigation continues

Meanwhile, the Redemptorist community in Cebu commended Obach for taking responsibility for his actions.

"It was very humbling. At the same time, it was very sincere," said media liaison Fr. Alfonso Suico.

However, Suico said they will continue their investigation of the incident. -Joworski Alipon, ABS-CBN News Central Visayas
