Although mas ideal to stay neutral, we really have no option but to take sides on this one mainly because of geopolitics. Our position in the world is so strategic becase it is between the two, so it kinda acts like a buffer state/country. To survive, the best course of action would be to align ourselves with the ones whom we know we can survive with.

Additionally, our country is not like Switzerland which had stayed neutral during the wars, precisely because of their location. It's much harder to invade, unlike with the Phils which is just surrounded by waters.
