After acquiring the first overall selection in the 2014 PBA Draft during the lottery held last July 1, the Globalport Batang Pier had decided to use the pick on Filipino-American floor general Stanley Pringle.

According to Globalport official Erick Arejola, the Batang Pier management had set their sights on Pringle to be the team's top choice in the upcoming draft given the combo guard’s immense on-court talent and impressive skill set.

Pringle has already signified his intention to join this year’s PBA draft, forwarding his application and other necessary paperwork to the league headquarters in Quezon City last week.

Born to retired US Navy veteran Stanley Pringle, Sr. and Elvira Andres Pringle of Cagayan province , the 6’1” Pringle led the Penn State Nittany Lions to the championship of the NCAA’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT) during his senior year in 2008-09 while averaging 12.75 points, 3.1 boards and 2.8 assists per contest.

The versatile playmaker later suited up for the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), in which he strutted his wares for the Indonesian Warriors under then head coach and current San Miguel Beer consultant Todd Purves.

During his tenure in the Southeast Asian league, Pringle helped his club to an ABL title in 2012 and a runner-up finish the following year. He compiled per game averages of 18.6 markers, 6.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds with the Warriors last season.

Aside from the ABL, the Fil-Am guard also had stints in the professional leagues of Poland, Ukraine and Belgium.

Per pba.inquirer.net:

“Sa kanya lang kami nakatingin. Wala kaming ibang option,” said GlobalPort official Erick Arejola, convinced there would be no stopping the Fil-Am player from joining the draft exercise.

PBA operations chief Rickie Santos said Pringle has applied for the Draft, but they have yet to check and verify his papers if he’s eligible to join the Draft pool.

The Batang Pier aren’t looking at anybody else as they very well know how good a player Pringle is.

The 6-foot-1 guard, playing for the Indonesian Warriors, dealt Harbour Centre Philippines much damage in their ABL Season III semifinal faceoff.

“Import na ang pinadepensa namin sa kanya, pinaglaruan din. Kilala namin sya na talagang magaling na player,” said Arejola.

“Siya ang tumalo sa amin sa semifinals. Then siya rin ang nagpahirap sa San Miguel Beer sa Finals. Eventually, pinag-champion niya ang Indonesia Warriors,” Arejola recalled.
