Understand how to satisfy the evidence of progress requirement.
Learn what other record keeping or record reporting requirements to watch out for.
Learn best practices for avoiding and handling conflict with state oversight officials.

Requirements
No homeschooling experience or legal background required to understand this course. It is to help regular parents understand how to access the information they need to meet any legal requirements to homeschool.

Description
In this course, you will learn how to find out what the legal requirements are for homeschooling in your state. You will learn what resources will be helpful for meeting those requirements. This course will cover what questions you need to ask when you begin homeschooling, such as what kind of notice are you required to provide and to whom, what level of education do you need to have in order to homeschool, and what kind of proof of instruction will you be required to provide. This course will also cover how to handle interactions with oversight officials, especially if you do not understand what they are asking for or you believe they are asking for something that is not legally required. As a Virginia attorney, I will be using Virginia as an example throughout the course. We will also briefly cover the legal requirements in all five of the top five states for the number of homeschoolers (North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Washington). However, the course is intended to help any homeschooling family in any state. While the exact requirements are state specific, they share many commonalities and this course will help make sense of what may be required of you as a homeschooling parent. When most families decide to homeschool, they spend an enormous amount of time researching what method or curriculum they plan to use. However, many end up scrambling at the last minute to find out what they are required to provide to their school district in terms of notice, their qualifications to provide home instruction, proof of academic progress, or even vaccination records. This course will provide you with the tools to create your own checklist that you can refer back to year after year when it's time to submit documentation. You will learn from a lawyer/homeschooling mom how to keep records like a lawyer so that you never miss a deadline or get into an unnecessary dispute with your school district.
