Cherry Mobile Ace gets P999 introductory price

In case you havent heard, Cherry Mobile dropped the proverbial bomb many of us have been waiting for in the form of a smartphone priced so low that it’s impossible to ignore. We’re talking about the Firefox OS-based Cherry Mobile Ace (sorry, Android fans).
Even better, from December 13 to 15, you can purchase it from Cherry Mobile stores and kiosks and authorized resellers for a mere P999, which is what a typical feature phone would cost these days. At that price, it’s easily the cheapest smartphone we’ve come across thus far and likely the cheapest one anywhere in the world, period.
After the promotion period, the device will go back to its standard price of P1,499-still crazy-low for the category.
Then again, it does come with a huge asterisk. Take it from us: When it comes to mobile devices, there’s no bigger asterisk than "not running Android or iOS."
To its credit, Firefox OS, in our opinion, is a decent first effort that has all the smartphone basics down pat, and the Cherry Mobile Ace does perform quite admirably given its bargain-basement specs.
Which brings us conveniently onto the phone’s key specifications: 3.5-inch 320 x 480 touch display; 1GHz single-core processor; 128MB RAM; 256MB expandable storage; VGA rear camera; and 1,100mAh battery.
The Cherry Mobile Ace also has dual-SIM slots, but neither one supports 3G networks. Not that we didn’t see it coming. This is a super-affordable phone after all, one that should serve as an introduction to the wonderful-and highly addictive-world of smartphones.
