Description
The course - titled "Successful Responses to Listening Exam Pitfalls" (SRLEP)- is of a great benefit for students who want to boost their test scores in the IGCSE / IELTS listening exams. This course is unlike other listening courses students may have attended. This is because listening courses tell students to underline the key words and focus on the meanings reflected in other words like synonyms because the speakers rarely say the correct responses in a direct way. This is good, but what if learners didn't understand these words due to the fast speech and the rapidly changing ideas and attitudes in the speakers' talks and conversations? For this reason, this course doesn't only focus on the meanings reflected in the synonyms or equivalents used by the speakers, but it also allows learners to identify the speakers' speech patterns that involve the correct answers as well as the speech patterns that involve the wrong responses to find out the strategies, categories, features and rules governing these patterns. You will be exposed to six strategies governing the speech patterns that involve the correct responses in addition to seven techniques governing the speech patterns that involve the pitfalls. The introduction covers six strategies covering speech patterns relevant to accurate responses in listening exams. It outlines both the features of incorrect answers and highlighting pitfalls before delving into correct responses. Real conversation excerpts from past paper audio files demonstrate these pitfalls naturally. Following this, a thorough explanation of these pitfalls-including speech markers and associated rules-will be provided. After you've identified all the pitfalls in the introduction, you will be introduced to the chapters 1-6. Each chapter will introduce a strategy involving the correct answers, its features and the speech markers associated with it.Similarly, you will listen to excerpts from real recorded conversations taken from the audio files of past papers. Then you will be given a detailed description of the strategy such as the speech markers and the rules that characterize the correct response, in addition to an explanation on the features and markers of the pitfalls or distracting information.
