Hello, I'm looking for a tattoo idea and ang pumasok sa mind ko is runebinding. And then, another idea popped off sa mind, Philippine runes. Do we have those ba? Like similar sa mga Nordic Runes which each letter symbolizes what blessing you will receive ( for example sa Norse Culture, Algiz character stands for protection, success, and high spiritual connection.)

And for those who will say Baybayin. Were they ever used ba as magic spells or protection spells lang? If so, may mga specific combination characters ba na that act as parang protective spell?

I think similar siguro yung mga symbols na ginagamit sa traditional tattoo sa Ifugao, though di talaga sila runes, more on parang status symbols and amulets ang purpose ng mga traditional tattoo design dito sa pinas.

Interesting yan! Ang Philippine version ng Nordic runes na closest would be our own ancient script, Baybayin. While it’s not exactly like runes na may individual meanings for each symbol, it was an early form of writing used by our ancestors to communicate. Baybayin symbols represent syllables rather than individual sounds or ideas, which is a bit different from how runes work.

May mga historians din na nag-link ang Baybayin sa certain mystic or symbolic uses, especially in rituals or talismans by babaylans (our ancient spiritual leaders). Parang ang dating nito, ginagamit din siya for spells, blessings, or protective charms—kinda like the spiritual aspect ng runes!

Kung hanap mo yung mystical-symbol-vibes like Nordic runes, we have ancient Visayan and Tagalog talismans and anitos (spiritual symbols) used in rituals, believed to represent various forces, spirits, and natural elements. These were carved or drawn, similar sa function ng runes as symbols of power and protection.
