Plot summary​

Genshin Impact takes place in the fantasy world of Teyvat, home to seven nations, each of which is tied to a different element and ruled by a different god. The story follows the Traveler, who has traveled across countless worlds with their twin sibling before becoming separated in Teyvat. The Traveler travels in search of the lost sibling with their companion Paimon and becomes involved in the affairs of Teyvat's nations.

A pair of twins who travel across different worlds arrive in the world of Teyvat and on their journey they witness the destruction of the nation of Khaenri'ah. As they attempt to flee from the destruction, their path is blocked off by a god who claims herself as the "Sustainer of Heavenly Principles", and separates them away from each other. One of the twins gets captured by the "Sustainer of Heavenly Principles" and the other, referred to as the "Traveler", has their powers sealed and awakes to find themselves stranded in Teyvat. They wandered the wilderness until they came across a floating being named Paimon, who proposes to aid and guide the them throughout the seven nations of Teyvat to search for their missing sibling. Paimon suggests that they consult with each nation's ruling archons.
