I played it for a short time its like Crusader Kings. I didn't like it that much because I want to see troops actually battle each other.

If would recommend total war franchise. This RTS, GRAND STRATEGY game is the real deal.

Don't be afraid to build cities close to another. Sharing resources is bad but its better than another player taking the resource tile from you.
