One Way ANOVA Theory Made Easy, Variance, Random Sampling, Experimental Error, Central Limit Theorem, The Factor Model

What you'll learn
You will gain a more concrete understanding the theory behind ANOVA through the use of statistical simulations
See how the central limit theorem and the standard error of the mean can be used to better understand how ANOVA works.
Understand the factor model of individual scores as it is applied to one way between subjects anova
Gain insight in why random sampling enables ANOVA to make estimates of the usually unknown population means
Gain insight to sources of experimental error that affect our ability to make precise predictions using ANOVA
Obtain a detailed understanding of what the sources of variations are in an ANOVA, what they mean, and how they are calculated
Understand how ANOVA tests for differences in means by evaluating variances by using statistical simulations
Clarification on how the F test functions in ANOVA to evaluate hypothesis being tested and why it works
Understand the differences between Alpha and Beta errors and how they can affect the accuracy of the conclusions drawn in an ANOVA
Requirements
Concurrent or previous class in basic statistics that includes one way ANOVA as a topic
Description
This course is an eight-part series designed to provide you with the learning necessary to gain a solid understanding of one way, between subjects, analysis of variance (ANOVA). The purpose of this series is to supplement and enhance your classroom instruction on the topics that are taught as students progress from learning about basic statistical concepts to one way ANOVA. Our goal is to deepen your understanding of ANOVA by focusing on the concepts that students often find most challenging. Our videos focus on some of the basic statistical theory that is necessary to support a solid understanding of one-way ANOVA. Instead of presenting each topic covered as a stand-alone learning experience, our videos will make the connection between that topic and analysis of variance. In this way, we have taken what we call, "a building block approach to ANOVA".We will not be focusing on the mechanics of running an ANOVA or the related procedures using any of the common statistical packages. Instead, we will be providing you with an easily understandable treatment of the theory behind the statistical procedures that we are discussing, linking each one with ANOVA. To support this approach, we will be using computer simulations to illustrate key concepts, enabling you to visualize and engage with the material in a deeper way. These simulations will make the topics we are presenting in these videos more concrete and tangible. Our focus will be on why ANOVA functions the way it does rather than on how to run a statistical program that calculates it.Each video in this series is designed to build on the prior ones, progressively strengthening your comprehension of the statistical concepts essential for conducting and interpreting a one-way ANOVA.The videos in this series will cover:VarianceRandom SamplingCentral Limit TheoremExperimental ErrorThe Factor Model of Individual ScoresAnalysis of Variance: Basic Concepts Part IAnalysis of Variance: Basic Concepts Part IIAnalysis of Variance: SimulationsANOVA Simulations
Who this course is for
Students who are taken a basic statistics course which has included one way ANOVA or students currently enrolled in one. This course is designed as a companion to classroom instruction that will provide additional insights to the topic of one way ANOVA by using statistical simulations to demonstrate and reinforce the important content that is has been covered in the classroom.
