my experience of it is a mental challenge. It's tough at first but then you realize hunger is just a psychological thing. Eventually I can go a whole day without food if I wanted to without feeling pain from hunger. It became control over your hunger and having a discipline when to eat and sometimes what you eat. That's my experience from it. Ps, I stopped doing it but adopt a particular habit I learn from it. Essentially it's "no breakfast" and no snacks after dinner and don't eat too late.
